Square Enix surprised fans at Summer Game Fest 2025 with a brand new IP called Killer Inn.
It’s been a relatively quiet year for Square Enix. Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster was a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, while Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles and Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD Remake launch in the fall.
There are a few confirmed projects without release dates, like Dying Light 2, Dragon Quest XII, and Kingdom Hearts 4. However, since some of those titles are still likely years away, it makes sense for the studio also to have something new in the works to help hold fans over.
Killer Inn Explained
Killer Inn takes place in an ancient white castle deep in the mountains. 24 players are invited to compete to win riches. You are either assigned as a Wolf or a Lamb. Wolves are tasked with hunting and killing, while Lambs must fight back and survive or escape.
Lambs have to work together to investigate clues left at crime scenes and figure out who the killers are before it’s too late. The defending team can level up by completing quests, looting chests for weapons and armor, stealing from other players to set up traps, and more.
Square Enix has not announced an official release date, but a closed beta is expected to arrive on Steam soon, and players can register now.
In other gaming news, Nintendo is already offering free replacements for faulty Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers, Rainbow Six Siege’s ‘Paragon skin’ split community members, and one GTA 6 fan spent one month recreating trailer 2 with LEGO.

Another flop. Didn’t expect this expected FF9 remake. But I knew KH4 wasn’t going to be here watch that get cancelled.
