Former Halo Creative Lead Joseph Staten has announced his next venture in gaming, and it’s with an unexpected company, Netflix. Staten announced via Twitter that he will be joining Netflix Games as a Creative Director.
“In my work life, there’s nothing I love more than collaborating with others to build worlds filled with iconic characters, deep mysteries, and endless adventures,” Staten said. “So today, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve joined Netflix Games as Creative Director for a brand-new AAA multiplatform game and original IP.”
Staten had worked on the first three Halo games in the early 2000s before leaving to help form Bungie. He returned to Microsoft and the Halo franchise in 2020 before leaving at the beginning of April.
His departure marks yet another major change within Microsoft and 343 Industries after layoffs and other high-profile departures over the last year. Other names who have recently left include Bonnie Ross, Frank O’Connor, and others.
There is no word on what the new IP is or when more details will be announced. Currently, Netflix has dozens of games available to play via Netflix Games, including games based on its popular Stranger Things series.
