Will The Outer Worlds 2 be on Xbox Game Pass? The highly anticipated RPG sequel will be one of the largest releases of 2025, but do you have to pay full price for it?
Even with the game getting a very slight price cut earlier this year, things are tight for a lot of people right now, and $70 is still a lot to part with for a video game.
Here is your answer to whether or not you can expect The Outer Worlds 2 on Xbox Game Pass.
Can You Play The Outer Worlds 2 on Game Pass?
Yes, The Outer Worlds 2 will be available on Xbox Game Pass on October 29. To be able to play the game right away, you will need to be subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or Xbox Game Pass for PC.
If you are instead subscribed to the standard console subscription, you will need to wait until The Outer Worlds 2 is added to that library. This can take up to a full year or longer to happen, but unfortunately, the new rules for the day one release schedule haven’t seen a full year yet, so we’re not sure how long to wait until that happens.
For comparison’s sake, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was released back in December 2024, and Doom: The Dark Ages came out in May. Neither game has yet been added to Xbox Game Pass Standard. If you want to play the game any time soon, you will want to either buy it or subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate or PC.
How Long Will The Outer Worlds 2 be on Game Pass?
Given that The Outer Worlds 2 is a game being made by Obsidian Entertainment, which is owned by Xbox and Microsoft, you can expect the game to always be available on Game Pass Ultimate.
In a vast majority of cases, games that Xbox owns never leave Game Pass. The only time that has happened is Quantum Break, which had a licensing issue and was quickly added back to the service. Other than that, games developed or published by Xbox do not get removed.
The story of The Outer Worlds series as a whole is a bit different. The original game has always been on Game Pass, but that game was published by Private Division. Xbox acquired Obsidian shortly before that game was released and acquired the series shortly after.
