IEM Atlanta 2026 saw Team Vitality suffer an unexpected Group Stage loss to BetBoom as the tournament moves steadily towards the playoffs.
The results so far mean that four of the six playoff spots are decided, with BetBoom, paiN, NAVI, and Legacy guaranteed to take the stage at the Georgia World Congress Center.
The event also said goodbye to BC.Game, NRG, Passion UA, and M80, with Oleksandr ‘s1mple’ Kostyliev and the majority of the North American players leaving the event.
Rough Vitality suffers BetBoom defeat
Vitality were stunned by BetBoom at IEM Atlanta, with the Russian org providing a distinctly proactive CT side which didn’t let Vitality breathe on Anubis.
The map was a strong showing of counter-stratting, with BetBoom choosing to make every round, win or lose, due to their own decision-making, resulting in a 13-10 victory on the map.
Moving on to Overpass, Vitality comprehensively dismantled BetBoom on a weak map for Kirill ‘Boombl4’ Mikhailov’s men, with Vitality boasting a commanding 9-3 T side before converting the map 13-8.
Moving on to Nuke, Vitality showed a rare crack with their T-sides on Nuke being in question. The hard side of the map, Vitality delivered only one round on their T side against NAVI in Fort Worth, and now two rounds against BetBoom in Atlanta.
Unlike NAVI, BetBoom recovered from Vitality’s forcebuy win to eke out the win 13-8 with Kirill ‘Magnojex’ Rodnov shining with a 20/8/1 KDA.
There is no reason to panic for Vitality just yet, though they will face decent tests against FaZe followed by the winners of B8/FUT if they progress.
First of all, Vitality continues to look like different beats once they enter the playoffs. Their IEM Rio loss to Falcons seemingly had no bearing on their playoff dominance.
Additionally, Vitality has been open about their lack of practice since IEM Rio, prioritizing their energy for the IEM Cologne 2026 Major.
Instead, the Vitality contingent has been seen galivanting through America’s ‘Great Outdoors,’ with Robin ‘ropz’ Kool, Shahar ‘flameZ’ Shushan, and Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut sharing a video of themselves chanting “f**k you, apEX” at Yosemite National Park.
IEM Atlanta sees BC.Game and NA teams struggle again
BC.Game was once again eliminated in last place of a tier 1 event, this time with their trial analyst, Robin ‘ScrunK Röpke, standing in. The event was another disaster for BC.Game, with roster disruption adding to the questionable nature of the project.
The event did, however, once again show that s1mple could still get it done under the right conditions, delivering an electrifying 28/13/4 KDA against Vitality on Dust 2 in the 0-2 series loss.
Leaving alongside BC.Game in last place were NRG, M80, and Passion UA, removing the majority of NA players at the NA event.
NRG fell to FaZe in a competitive 0-2 loss, with Passion UA losing to the Major-qualified Sinners roster 1-2, resulting in PUA’s last NA piece, Nick ‘nicx’ Lee, leaving the competition.
Liquid were perhaps only saved by having to face a team with more NA representation in the lower bracket, as they secured their first competitive victory since March.
