Sidekicks are the latest big addition to Fortnite, adding a host of fresh customisation items, but learning how to make your Sidekick Emote in the game can be challenging if you’ve not done it before.
The addition of Sidekicks for the Fortnite mini-season came with one reward included in the Battle Pass, Peels the banana dog, with additional Sidekicks available to purchase in the Item Shop—and each Sidekick has an exclusive Emote to unlock.
For all the details on Sidekick Emotes in Fortnite, including how to perform them and how to unlock them, we’ve got you covered.
How to Make Sidekick Emote in Fortnite

Fortnite Sidekick Emotes work differently from standard Emotes and cannot be performed unless you approach your Sidekick in-game.
When you perform a dance or Emote in Fortnite, in-game or in the pre-game lobby, your Sidekick will join in and dance too. However, to access their specific Sidekick Emotes, you need to be in a match. Follow these steps to get your Sidekick to Emote.
- Make sure your Sidekick is equipped from your Locker.
- Enter a game mode that supports Sidekicks (many custom games don’t support Sidekicks yet).
- Approach your Sidekick.
- Hit the corresponding Emote button that appears above them—Y on Xbox, Triangle on PlayStation.
- Watch your Sidekick perform the Emote.
Emotes are not immediately available for Sidekicks in Fortnite, however, and must be earned at the time of writing—although, in future, they could be added to the Item Shop.
How to Unlock Sidekick Emotes in Fortnite
Sidekick Emotes in Fortnite are currently only available by completing Sidekick Quests and unlocking the Emote, usually the final reward available.
Sidekick Points are earned by participating in matches, and don’t require any specific method to form and advance, with manual playing slowly earning the rewards.
You can view your Sidekick Quests and rewards in the pre-game lobby screen by following these steps, which will show you how far you are from unlocking an Emote.
- Log in to Fortnite.
- Scroll to the ‘Quests’ tab.
- Find the ‘Sidekicks’ menu, found at the bottom of the list.
- Click on the Sidekick you want to view rewards for.
- Scroll through the rewards.
Sidekick Emotes are, so far, distributed as the eighth and final Sidekick reward, though additional Emotes and rewards could be added in the future.
