How To Get Out Of Far Fields in Hollow Knight: Silksong—Flexile Spines Wish Guide

Far Fields is one of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s early-game areas. Its dark, eerie aesthetic is cool, but there’s a very good chance you’ll get sick of it after a while because you’re stuck at the bottom of its locale, unable to get back to the surface. Team Cherry has deviuously hidden the escape method.

You’ve probably coasted through most of Bone Bottom, The Marrow, and even Deep Docks—although you’ve probably struggled a bit more with Hunter’s March and its red flowers. One of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s first real headscratchers is once you get to the bottom of Far Fields.

There are clearly a ton of air vents to propel you upward, but Hornet has no device to use on them. If you’re struggling to exit Far Fields, we can help you escape.

Can’t Get Out Of Far Fields in Hollow Knight: Silksong, Explained

The only way to initially get out of Far Fields is to get to the top of the giant room in the southeast of the map, enter the rest area, speak to Seamstress to activate the Flexile Spines Hunt, and acquire the Drifter’s Cloak item.

One of the inspirations behind this guide was that we suffered the same issue—perpetual confusion. However, once you realise what’s going on, it’s quite simple.

Follow these instructions in Silksong:

  1. In the center of the main giant room (use the first screenshot above as a reference point) are several large wooden ledges held up by giant chains.
  2. You need to reach our “The beginning point” screenshot location to reach it.
  3. Jump up the ledges until you reach the tent.
  4. Enter.
  5. Speak to Seamstress.
  6. Initiate Flexile Spines.
  7. Complete the quest.
  8. You receive the Drifter’s Cloak as a reward—this gets you out of Far Fields.

You’ve more than likely accepted quests up until this point in Silksong, but this one is compulsory to progress. In Metroidvania style, this isn’t made clear to you, hence the difficulty of not knowing where to go or what to do!

How To Complete Flexile Spines Hunt in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Completing this Hunt requires you to track a specific enemy that shoots spines at you, destroy the spines, collect 25 of them, and bring them back to Seamstress.

No talking, let’s get you straight into the quest with our complete walkthrough:

  1. Once you leave the tent, head straight right and go back through the connected areas to the east.
  2. Continue until you find a spine enemy—shown in the second screenshot above.
  3. Hit them once so that they fire several spines in the direction they’re pointing.
  4. You need to quickly head to the spines and hit them so that it drops the collectible.
  5. Each enemy should net you 3-5 spines per enemy—depending on how quick and resourceful you are.
  6. Repeat this process until you have 25 spines.
  7. When you do, return to Seamstress and hand them in.
  8. She rewards you with the Drifter’s Cloak in return.

You can use the cloak to ride the momentum of vent gusts to fly up above. To use the Drifter’s Cloak, jump, and press the jump button again right after.

Your Far Fields nightmare is over. It’s fairly straightforward once you know what you’re doing, but this process of understanding can be a thinker. If you liked the guide, drop a comment below, and also let us know either here or on the Insider Gaming forum what guides you’d like to see next.
