Hogwarts Legacy Is Steam’s Best-Selling Game Right Now

Hogwarts Legacy is at the top of the charts as Steam’s best-selling game, nearly a month before its set to release. This comes despite calls for a boycott around social media due to Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling’s beliefs surrounding the transgender community.

While it technically sits at number five on the actual list as of writing, the only titles ahead of Hogwarts Legacy on the store’s “Top Sellers” are three free-to-play titles and the Valve Steam Deck. The closest other full-priced games on the list are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and One Piece Odyssey.

What to expect from Hogwarts Legacy?

Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG that sees players live out the life of a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The game features a brand new story set in the Harry Potter universe that has players “embark on a dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world. They will grow their magical abilities by mastering spells, brewing potions, taming magical beasts, and more.”

In addition to the story itself, players will be able to choose the house they belong to, fully create their own wizard or witch, and even build relationships with other characters within the game.

The game is being developed by the studio behind Disney Infinity, Avalanche Software. It will be published by Warner Bros. Games’ “Wizarding World” games label Portkey Games.

After almost two years of delays, Hogwarts Legacy launches on February 10 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game’s last-gen version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will release on April 4 while the Nintendo Switch version launches on July 25.
