The Halo Championship Series Arlington Major has been put on hold as the venue in Texas has lost power. In clips captured and circulated on social media last night, it was shown how the venue was plunged into darkness as a transformer near the site failed, knocking out the lights in the Esports Stadium in Arlington.
This has pushed back the schedule by a day, which can have immense ramifications on any fans who have flown in for the event.
Going Dark
Team Nemesis shared a clip of the power outage on social media after going 2-0 up against OpTic Gaming, the hosts for this HCS Major. In the darkness, chants of ‘Green Wall’ could be heard:
we got 2 maps and the power went out. Apparently you can’t win 3-0 against optic at the optic major😭
Following the power outage, an official update was posted by HCS staff:
A transformer outside the venue failed and caused the power issue. Based on the assessment by the city power and fire departments, this will take an extended amount of time to fix and get back online tonight. We will not be continuing the tournament or broadcast tonight, and will need to continue tomorrow.
Please give us some time to work through creating an updated schedule for the remainder of the weekend. We will provide another update tonight. Thanks for understanding, we are working through this with all parties as best we can.
The Arlington Major is a $250,000 staple in the Halo Championship Series circuit, which is in full flow for the 2025 season. The pool stage was just heating up when the power outage took the wind out of hte event’s sails.
Thus far, Shopify Rebellion, FaZe Clan, and SSG have all proven that they have what it takes to secure a trophy at the Arlington Major. As this is the first HCS Major of the 2025 season, it’ll set the tone for the year ahead. Fans are eager to see OpTic Gaming secure something, though.
Last season, OpTic came in second at the Halo World Championship in Seattle. The team also secured the second-place spot at the Salt Lake City, Atlanta, London, and Arlington Majors. In almost every close finish, it was SSG that pushed OpTic down.
Let’s see what happens when the power situation is resolved.
