Halloween: The Game Has Been Banned In Australia

If you live down under and are excited about playing the upcoming Halloween: The Game, well, you may want to sit down for this. Halloween: The Game has been banned in Australia.

Set to release in less than a month, the game has received ratings from numerous ratings boards worldwide. The Australian Classification Board, however, wasn’t one of them.

Banned, But Not For The Killing

In a post on social media, developer IllFonic lamented that Australian fans won’t be able to experience the new Michael Myers title. But, as they say, the game’s failure to get a rating had nothing to do with the titular character and his killing habits.

“Despite every effort on our part, the Australian Classifications Board has denied ‘Halloween: The Game’ a rating,” they wrote. “The denial was not based on the presence of the iconic slasher, Michael Myers, or the outstanding kills that can be performed in the game, but rather the presence of a controlled substance.”

Because of the decision, the game can’t be sold in either Australia or New Zealand.

For locations where the game isn’t banned, Halloween: The Game releases on September 8 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Those who buy the Digital Deluxe version of the game can start playing on September 4.
