The Princess of the Underworld’s bow on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S was long overdue. While a digital edition was a guarantee, a physical version was not, and there’s a precedent behind Hades 2 and its predecessor, overlooking physical copies.
From the day Hades 2 moved from early access to a 1.0 release, the wait was on for its launch. The Nintendo Switch 2 release came first, but curiously, it was a digital-only release. A physical copy followed, but now we’ve looped back around to the same conversation again with Hades 2 on PS5 and Xbox.

Right now, there is no physical edition for Hades 2, with neither Supergiant Games nor PlayStation/Xbox advertising a full physical release for the ports.
History has repeated itself once more. Like the Switch 2 version of Hades 2 and Hades 1 prior, the game is getting a full digital release at first. The only way to purchase Hades 2 is through the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store.

This means pouring your money into a digital purchase, or maybe you can wait to see what the future holds.
Will Hades 2 Get A Physical Release on PS5 & Xbox Series X|S?
It’s extremely likely (borderline all but confirmed) that Hades 2 will get a full physical edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, featuring a disc and game box.
Let’s turn back the clock to 2019. At first, Hades was an Epic Game Store exclusive for its early access period, would you believe? It then made its way to Steam, and then Supergiant Games released its sleeper hit indie title to widespread acclaim in 2020.
It came out on Nintendo Switch first in September 2020, but digitally. A full physical release for the Switch happened on March 19, 2021—nearly six months after the digital debut. PlayStation and everyone else finally got a taste of Hades action in September 2021. As you can see, the first game went through a methodical process.

Despite the groundwork being in place, Hades 2 has followed a similar pattern. May 2024 saw Hades 2 go into early access, and it took until September 25, 2025, for a 1.0 launch—exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.
Fast forward seven months this time for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S ports. So, if we’re going down the same road, Supergiant Games is presumably allowing the digital release to have its moment in the spotlight, and a full Hades 2 physical release will happen in September or October 2026.
