Mewgenics continues to make history in its first few days on Steam.
Mewgenics’ peak player count surpassed 115,000 on February 15. Now, having peaked at 115,428, it has surpassed Hades 2 as the most-played roguelike game of all time. Hades II’s peak was 112,947 players in September 2025.
Mewgenics has had a strong start in its first week on the market, currently holding a Metacritic rating of 89 and an overall user score of 8.0. By comparison, Hades 2 has a 95 on Metacritic. Hades II’s user score is currently sitting at an 8.6
The Future of Mewgenics
Edmund McMillen previously noted that he was surprised by the game’s success. He also stated that while he doesn’t know when the game will be finished, it is in development across multiple platforms and is targeting console releases. Learn more about that at this link.
