GTA 5 Sales Pass 195 Million Copies While Read Dead Redemption 2 Has Hit 61 Million

The success for Rockstar Games’ two latest titles — Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5 and Read Dead Redemption 2 — continues for the developer and publisher Take-Two Interactive.

During its 2024 Q3 earnings call on Thursday, Take-Two announced that GTA 5 has now sold 195 million copies, up by 5 million from the last call. Read Dead Redemption 2 is now up to 61 million units sold. The entire Read Dead series has sold over 86 million units combined.

With GTA 6 in development for a 2025 release, the company’s has shifted to the launch of what’s expected to be the biggest video game release of all time. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick knows how excited people are for the game, saying during the Q&A portion of the earnings call that he feels it’s had an effect on the franchise as a whole.

“I do think that excitement around GTA 6 has had a halo effect on the entire franchise,” Zelnick said while specifically calling out the aforementioned GTA 5 sales and GTA Online performing above company expectations.
