Rockstar Giving Free GTA 5 Upgrades to Last-Gen Owners

Rockstar has announced that if you own GTA 5 on previous-gen consoles, you can grab a free upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions starting tomorrow.

GTA 5 is one of the longest-running games available, spanning three console generations. Each new version for different consoles has introduced its own set of visual and performance upgrades, with the current-generation version offering the most significant improvements. If you’ve upgraded to a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, it’s worth looking into this free upgrade.

Previous-Gen GTA 5 Owners to Get Free PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Upgrades

A new Rockstar blog post discusses the free upgrade for last-gen GTA 5 owners. Players who own a PS4 or digital XBOX One version of the game will be able to upgrade to the PS5 and XBOX Series X/S versions at no additional cost. The upgrade will provide players with access to the best version of GTA 5 and GTA Online on consoles. The latest version comes with technical improvements and new content, including Hao’s Special Works high-performance vehicles and more.

What’s more, the free GTA 5 upgrade is not reserved just for console players; PC players can take advantage of it too. PC players can upgrade from the Legacy version to the Enhanced version for free and enjoy features like ray-traced ambient occlusion and global illumination. The developers are providing upgrades to players on all platforms ahead of their GTA Online: The Kortz Center Heist, which arrives in July.
