Gray Zone Warfare’s long-awaited 0.4 update, Spearhead, is out now, and it’s proving to be a rampant success for MADFINGER Games. The early-access tactical shooter, which boasts a sumptuous open-world map and hundreds of tasks, has skyrocketed on Steam to a peak player count of 27,372 users, at the time of writing.
That’s not as high as the all-time peak of 72,548, but it is the most concurrent players the game has seen since May 20, 2024, a month after the game was released.
Spearhead Takes Gray Zone to New Heights
Gray Zone Warfare’s 0.4 update is nothing short of phenomenal, which is what we alluded to in our recent review of the game. It adds 100 new tasks, 25 new locations, all-new movement mechanics, weapons, and core game mechanics. There’s a fresh onboarding system, a graphical boost, and a massive optimization overhaul, all of which have brought players flooding into the platform.
That, combined with a hefty Steam sale and creator-backed marketing campaign, means that Gray Zone Warfare is storming up the charts on Steam once again.

MADFINGER Games has worked tirelessly to evolve Gray Zone Warfare, and it shows. How the game feels today compared to at launch in April 2024 is night and day. This latest update, Spearhead, is the single most important iteration of the open-world sandbox shooter to date.
It was even dubbed a ‘new game, new experience’ by the team at MADFINGER Games. The proof is in the pudding, as even the review sentiments around Gray Zone Warfare have soared in recent days.
