GoldenEye 007 Xbox and Switch Release Date Confirmed for January

Timelessly popular N64 classic GoldenEye 007 will release on Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch this week.

GoldenEye 007 will release on January 27 for players on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via Xbox Game Pass. Those who own a digital copy of Rare Replay on Xbox will also be able to download and play GoldenEye 007 at no extra cost.

The announcement, which was likely originally planned for tonight’s Xbox & Bethesda Developer Direct, was shared unexpectedly early today on developer Rare’s social media channels and the official Xbox website. The game was announced as coming to Game Pass in September last year, and it appears that the wait is nearly over.

Xbox players aren’t the only ones joining in the old-school fun, either. GoldenEye 007 will also come to Nintendo Switch on the same day via the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass.

The re-release promises to retain the exact gameplay of the original, with the Xbox announcement stating it will be “the classic game that made waves in 1997, based on the movie that introduced audiences to a thrilling new era of James Bond.”

In matching the original release, players will be able to enjoy not just the main campaign, but also four-player split-screen multiplayer matches. That’s a fair warning to begin preparing yourself for complaints about screen-watching now.

Some adjustments have been made to help the old game adapt to modern screens and controllers. The GoldenEye 007 Xbox and Switch release will feature alternative control options, achievements, and native 16:9 resolution support up to 4K Ultra HD on Xbox.
