It doesn’t matter if you release a successful game, layoffs seemingly don’t play favorites. PlayStation first-party developer Sucker Punch Productions has been hit with layoffs.
The news was first reported by Aftermath.
Two Dozen People Have Been Let Go
According to Aftermath’s report, which comes after speaking to an ex-employee, 26 people have lost their job in the wave of cuts.
Per a company email, studio leadership said the decision comes, “After carefully observing the challenges in the market and reviewing the team needs for our next project, we’ve decided to make some staffing reductions. Several positions across Sucker Punch will be eliminated as a result.”
The email continues to say that the decision wasn’t made lightly. In fact, Sucker Punch executives say they “have given this a lot of attention and worked to support our affected colleagues during this transition as well as we can.”
Ghost of Yotei launched a year ago to both critical and user acclaim. It was even one of PlayStation’s best-selling games in the time since its release.
