THE INSIDER SAYS: “What is it with murderizing cutesy characters to earn the favor of eldritch gods? Worship — the inky-black humored Pikmin-like co-op game — is worth checking out. That is, if you don’t mind spilling a little blood to spread the gospel of a dark lord.”
You know how in games like Pikmin you gather up lovely little minions to help you navigate the world – maybe ward off a couple threats? Well, what if YOU were the threat? The cute-but-dark overtones are hard to miss. Where Pikmin’s a colorful, welcoming world, Worship is quite literally black and white with drops of blood-red all over.
So, about that. You convert others by literally drawing a circle on the ground around them. A circle drawn with blood dripping from your hand. Want to devastate enemies or obstacles in your way, cut your hand, draw a symbol on the ground, and go. Toss your cutesy cultists at problems or mini-puzzles like bringing tributes to the gods or just slaughtering a few to earn favor. And, as with any solid roguelike, you’ll have all sorts of curveballs thrown as you try to bring your dark deity to the mortal realm.
Evil-leaning players might have fond memories of the Overlord games here or the more recent Cult of the Lamb (the later being more of a Stardew / Hades combo vibe), but we think Worship earns a spot on the list of games worth checking out. While only showing up in Early Access, it’s off to an interesting start.
