However, Keeper is more just a sentient lighthouse that clambers along on spider/crab legs, traveling through some surreal painting come-to-life with its new bestie, an ugly green seabird. It’s a playful, unique look at how to navigate a world that doesn’t make much sense….and yet very much does. Does this all sound like a cryptic, arty way to describe a videogame? Yep, and that pretty much makes it a Double Fine joint. If that tickles your interest button, you’re in for a fun ride.”

If you want to REALLY deconstruct what Keeper is about, imagine a super-trippy take on the world navigation, combined with adventurey puzzle solving. That’s the short version.  The long version? We’re going to take a cut straight from the game’s description so that you can get a taste of what’s going on in this atmospheric puzzle adventure: 

“On an island in a long-lost sea, a forgotten lighthouse stands dormant in the shadow of a distant mountain peak. As withering tendrils spread and coalesce, it awakens. Taken with a mysterious sense of purpose and joined by a spirited seabird, it embarks upon a heartening tale of unlikely companionship, an odyssey of mystifying metamorphosis, and an unexpected journey towards the center of the island, into realms beyond understanding.”

So, yes, you’ve got this creepy-legged lighthouse skittering across a crazy landscape and light beam atop its tower that creates psychedelic effects. (The most important being it wards off waves of these bat-like creatures that swarm your friend). You have the world’s ugliest seagull – and that’s truly saying something – as your partner. In other words, peak Double Fine.  It’s not classically “tough.” Really, it’s more of an experience. So long as you go in with that in mind, it’s worth seeing for yourself since it looks beautiful.
