In a new post on X today, the Frostpunk 2 team announced that the game’s anticipated release is now delayed until September 20, 2024.
During the Xbox partner preview showcase last March, Frostpunk 2 previously got a release date for July 25, 2024. However, the devs offered a lengthy explanation for their decision.
In today’s post, the team cites a combination of the recent Beta’s feedback, and “the existing backlog of features.” Fans quickly supported the decision, dedication, and communication of the team.
The devs added that “we believe that these additional features are something you deserve to see in-game from day one, not in a patch added after the release.”
In a corresponding post on Steam, the developers also specified which features they plan to improve.
That includes key gameplay changes affecting temperature, workforce management, direct-use abilities, protest mechanics, and even a new resource. There will also be improved UI and UX, such as the HUD and easy visibility.
Lastly, the devs explained that Frostpunk 2 will now get a “Zoom Stories” feature. This allows players to zoom in and watch citizens’ everyday life.
The Steam post says that “we’ve only mentioned a fraction of it,” so there will be other improvements before launch.
Frostpunk 2 will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S when it releases in September 2024.
