Sony Reveals The PS5 Pro With A November Release Date

Would love to know their sales target/expectations of this because the price point would suggest it’s for enthusiasts. I can be convinced of a lot of things but I doubt they’re expecting to hit the mass market with this one, especially in Europe or Canada.

This presentation could’ve benefited from showcasing upcoming games really. Bundle it with in their TGS showcase and display just how beautiful and powerful DS2 and Ghost of Twoshima would be instead of going for some whack comparisons of games that run really well on even the PS4

This is where I'm at. First time in 15 years of console gaming that I'm seriously considering putting my saved money toward a mid-end PC instead.
The most common argument against this was that you’ll never beat the “inexpensiveness” of the console but as the generations get longer I also think PCs are the way to go, especially if you start small and just slowly upgrade your way from there. You’ll still shell out more over time than the one time bulk purchase of a home console but it’d even out since you can get games on the PC far cheaper (including the console ports)

While I understand that $700 seems a lot to some folks, keep in mind this isn't the first time Sony has priced a console above what consumers have liked. The launch 60GB model of the PS3 was $599.

Idk it feels like I'm in the minority but the technological upgrade seems quite worth the price. Graphically a 4070 is needed to do the same thing, and thats not even including the rest of the PC. you are easily breaking 700 to get a PC equivalent. then you also get access to an ecosystem that has quite the reputation for stellar graphically sound games. The stand is stupid as hell though. That should be included.

I actually agree with you that the price seems fine at least to me based on the specs.

As Geoff Keighley pointed out, its not even their most expensive console adjusted for inflation.

PS1: $611 (1995) PS2: $546 (2000) PS3: $778 (2006) PS4: $538 (2013) PS4 Pro: $522 (2016) PS5: $606 (2020) PS5 Pro: $699 (2024)

What I really don't get is the folks that are saying you can build a PC equal to the PS5 Pro in terms of specs for the same price as if it most $700 dollar PCs achieve that type of performance. If you buy used parts or parts on really good sales, you might be able to. But if you were to go buy all brand new parts at full price, I find it hard to imagine you could match the price and specs of PS5 Pro with a $700 dollar PC

Then add a $500 monitor...

As XboxP3 wrote, this definitely appears to be targeted toward enthusists and not the mass market. Otherwise, I truly don't understand some of their tech choices. Wifi 6 is expected to be the dominant standard for another five years. The PR for Wifi 7 makes lots of noise about 8K streaming. Not only is 8K streaming very uncommon (and the dominant streamer, Netflix, hasn't committed to providing native 8K content any time soon), Wifi 6E can handle a compressed 8K stream. This is definitely for the user who has the disposable income to afford the bleeding edge. The PS6 will likely arrive before there's enough content to make this something most gamers will want to buy.

It's 100% geared toward 15% of the PS player base, just as PS4 Pro was.

After months of reports and rumors, Sony has officially revealed the PS5 Pro along with a release date of November 7.

700usd for console ,100 usd for disc drive and another couple of bucks for vertical stand wow

Half the reason people game on Xbox and Playstation is because consoles are more affordable than a decent PC. This is technically still the case at $700, but I have a feeling most people will see that pricepoint and decide to just skip the mid-generation upgrade altogether.
Especially under the guise of it being for enthusiasts. I would suggest that an enthusiast may just save some more money and build a PC instead

Makes no sense to pay $700 if they have point to where we have to look to spot the difference between the base PS5 and the Pro. most probably when GTA 6 comes out I'll get one but not now. I'm more than happy with my PS5
