According to a new post on The Lodestone, Square Enix will hold an open beta for the Xbox Series X|S version of Final Fantasy XIV later this month.
The open beta begins on February 21st, at around 12 AM pacific time. However, only new players will be able to access the beta.
This beta will also feature “the same content, features, and limitations as the Free Trial version”, except online purchases.
The Lodestone is a dedicated site for Final Fantasy fans. So, it also explains how to change your Xbox settings in order to participate in the beta.
Square Enix also confirmed that “the full Xbox Series X|S version will require an Xbox Game Pass (Core or Ultimate) plan to play”.
This will likely disappoint Xbox fans, since Final Fantasy XIV does not require a PS Plus subscription.
The hit MMORPG may not qualify as a free-to-play game, which would allow Xbox fans to avoid the subscription fees.
The next big update for Final Fantasy XIV is Dawntrail. The expansion should release this year, adding new areas, more allied tribes, visual improvements and more.
Square Enix has not confirmed a concrete release date yet. However, the devs did announce that Dawntrail will release sometime in summer 2024.
With so much fresh content on the way, there are bound to be plenty of newcomers. Fortunately, the new open beta itself will not require an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
The Final Fantasy series continues to thrive and grow. PlayStation recently announced that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would get its own State of Play.
The dedicated State of Play will premiere this week on February 6th, ahead of the game’s full launch on February 29th.
