Fallout 76 dropped in 2018 and has been on a mission of expansion ever since. Bethesda Game Studios has poured plenty of content into the post-apocalyptic MMORPG since its release, adding new points of interest, storylines, in-game mechanics, and world events.
The next update is set to be the biggest ever, offering a substantial map expansion that takes players beyond West Virginia and into Ohio. This is set to be the most seamless map transition ever, with players heading to Point Pleasant on the base map, crossing a bridge, and entering Ohio, much like they can do in real life.
This is just the ground floor of this supersized update, which is set to be the largest expansion ever introduced to Fallout 76.
Fallout 76 is Heading Into Ohio
This isn’t the first time that Fallout 76 has taken players outside West Virginia, but it’s the first time it should be a seamless transition. From what we’ve learned, players will be able to walk into Ohio, while Atlantic City and The Pitt are only accessible via a Vertibird transfer.
Burning Springs is the name of the next major Fallout 76 expansion, and recently, Bethesda Game Studios held a media-only event in New York City to introduce select members of the press to the upcoming content (in alpha at the time). This event was headed by Jonathan Rush, Creative Director, and Bill LaCoste, Production Director.
Our partners, the Iron Lords, were in attendance and got to play an early version of Burning Springs.
One of the faces of the Burning Springs update is The Ghoul, taken from the Fallout television series and played by Walton Goggins, a legendary actor and arguably the most iconic character from the show. He has provided his voice and likeness for Burning Springs, and if Bethesda has done it right, this will provide one of the first dives into The Ghoul’s history we’ve had as fans of the franchise.
The Ghoul will also be the front for a bounty-hunting line that will give players new challenges to explore and fresh ways to play the game. If you complete enough challenges with The Ghoul, you’ll unlock his classic weapons.
As you can imagine, the Burning Springs expansion will have all manner of new world events, enemies, a fresh storyline, and more points of interest are being added than ever before, even more than the expansion into the Shenandoah Valley.
Players will be charged with exploring this new wasteland, filled with armored and tamed Deathclaws, intelligent Super Mutants leading intense factions, and dealing with the new honking menace, the Rad Hog. There are new world bosses to tussle with, and hours of fresh content will be available for players, both new and veteran, to dive into.
And what’s even more exciting is that the update will arrive in tandem with the second season of the Fallout TV show in December 2025!
