This Fallout 4 Update Could Mess With Your Game, Bethesda Warns

Tomorrow, Bethesda Game Studios is rolling out a fairly regular Fallout 4 patch that’s going to address some improvements to the Creations platform. This is the in-game ecosystem powered mostly by digital currency that allows certain mods to be paywalled, for better or worse.

However, the team has warned that not everything might go as smoothly as planned, and the deployment of this patch in Fallout 4 might wreak havoc on your mods. Given that most people run Fallout 4 with stacks of mods as a given, this is a fair warning to everyone out there: check your load order.

Fallout 4 August Patch Could Screw Your Mods

In a post on social media, Bethesda Game Studios wrote:

On Tuesday, August 18th, a patch will be coming to Fallout 4 focusing on general Creations improvements. As a precaution, prior to these updates we encourage players to log into your game save if you haven’t done so in a while or manually save your load order.

Once your load order is saved, you’ll be able to re-download your entire Creations list at once when the update is live. Additionally, we are also working on a Skyrim update with details to come soon.

It’s likely a small patch, but because it’s messing with the Creations platform, it stands to reason that it might have an impact on mod files and how they’re installed. Therefore, following the above advice is pretty prudent.

The team also dropped that tidbit that they’re working on a Skyrim update, which is mad news, considering the game is more than 15 years old. Of course, it has been re-released umpteen times since it dropped in 2011, so there’s that.

If nothing else, this could be a throwback to the launch of the Anniversary Edition of Fallout 4, and the ‘current-gen upgrade’ that dropped a couple of years ago. Both of those monumental occasions took mods worldwide and ran amok with them, causing grief for gamers everywhere.

Let’s hope that tomorrow’s Fallout 4 update is a little more peaceful.
