The most iconic competitor in the esports industry has renewed his contract with the organization he has called home for many years. That’s right, I’m talking about Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok, one of the most decorated esports players in the world and arguably the GOAT when it comes to League of Legends.
He has renewed his contract with T1 Esports, which will now see him play under the team’s banner until at least 2029. He’ll be 33 years old by the time this contract times out.
Miles In The Tank
Faker is one of the winningest esports players ever. He has claimed five world championship titles in League of Legends, and his career spans a drastically long window. He won his first League Worlds in 2013 and won it most recently last year, in 2024. It’s almost an unprecedented run, and Faker is far from finished.
In a post on social media, T1 revealed that the superstar has renewed his contract with the organization:
𝐑𝐞-𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧, ‘𝐅𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫’ ‘Faker’ 선수가 2029년까지 T1과 함께합니다. 리그 오브 레전드를 넘어 e스포츠의 상징이 된 ‘Faker’ 선수, 전설로 남을 앞으로의 여정도 기대하겠습니다. ‘Faker’ continues his journey with T1 until 2029. With ‘Faker’, becoming a symbol of esports beyond
Faker’s most recent tournament, the Esports World Cup, didn’t end as the fans would have liked, with the squad dropping out in third place. It was a hard pill to swallow as T1 came into the tournament as the defending champion.
It was an especially big loss as the team fell short at MSI, ending up in second place just behind Gen.G, the winner of this year’s Esports World Cup. Gen.G’s active roster includes Chovy, the heir apparent behind Faker and one of the GOAT’s most notable rivals.
Are you surprised to learn that Faker has signed with T1 for such a long time? When he’s done, he’ll have been competing for 16 years. Let me know what you think on the Insider Gaming forum.
