The Esports World Cup’s Black Ops 7 tournament is coming to a head this weekend, and one team will walk away with a whopping $600,000 grand prize. It has proven to be a stellar event thus far, with some huge upsets being dealt, but it’s going to wrap soon, and there’s a chance for last year’s champion to step up to the plate and smash it out of the park all over again.
Unfortunately, no Challengers-tier teams have made it to the playoff stage, with all organizations at that level having been eliminated before qualifying. That’s even with some of them having put up one hell of a fight thus far, going so far as to eliminate some CDL-tier teams with ease.
Black Ops 7 EWC Schedule is Tightened Up
The four quarterfinal fixtures lined up for August 8th are looking fairly tasty, including the Old Faithful or the ‘El Clásico’ of Call of Duty in an OpTic vs. FaZe series:
- G2 Esports vs. Team Heretics
- Team Falcons vs. Gentle Mates
- 100 Thieves vs. Movistar KOI
- FaZe Clan vs. OpTic Gaming
The FaZe Clan vs. OpTic Gaming fixture is obviously the pick of the bunch, as it represents an opportunity for the OpTic foursome to get a little revenge on FaZe Clan, the team that prevented the threepeat at the COD Championship mere weeks ago.
But elsewhere, you’ve got the home team heroes in Gentle Mates taking on Team Falcons, the team fathered by the founders of the Esports World Cup itself.
It’s set to be a stunning weekend, and fortunately, nobody will walk away empty-handed. Even a second-place finish guarantees the organization a mighty $320,000 prize, which is nothing to scoff at.
