It’s not just consumers feeling the pinch of Microsoft’s price increases, as Xbox dev kits are also going up.
According to Tom Warren at The Verge, sources say that the company is raising the price of Xbox development kits. It’s said that dev kit prices will rise from $1,500 to $2,000, and this price increase will impact other regions in addition to the United States.
“The adjustment reflects macroeconomic developments,” Microsoft told developers via The Verge. “We remain committed to providing high-quality tools and support for your development efforts.”
The increase to $2,000 represents a jump of 33% from the prior cost. That 33% remains in line with what Microsoft has done to consumer Xbox hardware since the current systems launched in 2020. It also comes a few short weeks after the company announced a 50% price increase for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Insider Gaming has reached out to Microsoft for comment on the Xbox dev kit price increase. Should a response be received, it will be added to this story.
