The Esports World Cup went huge this year, racking up a monumental count of 850 million viewers and a staggering 440 million hours watched, the EWC Foundation has revealed. That represents year-over-year growth of 13% and 26%, respectively, but the real gem comes from ticket sales: up 94% in Paris compared to 2025 in Riyadh.
During the event, more than two million people visited an Esports World Cup tournament or activation, making this a record-shattering competitive gaming event that will go down in the history books for many reasons.
Esports World Cup Tops Charts in 2026
To close out the Esports World Cup in Paris, France, AG.AL lifted the ultimate Club Champion trophy, securing a whopping prize worth $7 million, along with a coveted trophy that marked the organization as the best of the best.
The organization’s competitors secured wins in Trackmania and TEKKEN 8, and second-place finishes in Chess, Free Fire, and Honor of Kings, and a third-place finish in Teamfight Tactics. That was enough to garner the points necessary to win the sought-after Club Chamnpionship.
On stage in Paris, President Emmanuel Macron handed the team the trophy alongside HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. In a statement, Ralf Reichert, the CEO of the Esports Foundation, said:
Our ambition has always been bigger than a single event: to grow esports and establish it as a leading global sport.
The Esports World Cup brings that mission to life by bringing the best games, players, Clubs and communities together on one global stage. Paris embraced the Esports World Cup and made it its own. The city showed that competitive gaming belongs on the world’s biggest stages while staying true to what makes esports special.
Thank you to the city of Paris for seven weeks of incredible support and fandom. And congratulations to AG.AL on an extraordinary Club Championship victory and on earning their place in esports history.
For the seven weeks that the Esports World Cup played out, Paris became the ultimate stage for competitive gaming. You could hardly move in the city for campaigns and promos advertising the showcase, and that has sat quite nicely with fans worldwide.
Unfortunately, the news was delivered recently that, from next year, the Esports World Cup is heading back to Saudi Arabia. This was met with immense displeasure in social circles, with many stressing that this year’s event was so successful because it was hosted in Paris.
Many, including myself, believe that the Esports World Cup should become a roaming event, much like the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics, moving around the world and taking place in a different city every year.
It’s tougher to accomplish that on a logistic level, but the fact remains that housing the EWC in Riyadh renders it just far too inaccessible for the bulk of esports fans.
