That’s not a typo – Escape from Tarkov has a competitor surfacing this year in the form of a top-down, PvE extraction shooter, and it’s all about the ducks. It’s called ‘Escape from Duckov’ (really), and it’s being assembled by Team Soda in partnership with Bilibili Game.
I don’t fully understand how it’s real, but it is, and it looks genuinely entertaining.
Prepare to Escape
Escape from Duckov soared to success earlier this year with an exciting demo that drew in thousands of players on Steam. There’s a new demo available on Steam now as part of Steam Next Fest, giving players access to around eight hours of content that exposes them to map exploration, crafting, looting, and combat.
Escape from Duckov is a thinly veiled, satirical stab at Escape from Tarkov, the leading extraction shooter that has been around for almost a decade. In Duckov, players assume control of a cartoon duck, venturing into various maps and trying to solve quests, defeat enemies, and get out alive with a backpack full of loot.
To make matters weirder, the enemies in this game are predominantly pigeons (and other birds), and players can have companions, such as an armoured chihuahua, to keep them company in this single-player PvE extraction shooter.
Here’s the new Escape from Duckov trailer:
With in-game crafting, a base-building mode, survival mechanics, and a story to discover, Escape from Duckov promises to be a humorous addition to the somewhat intense, challenging world of extraction shooters.
Here’s the spiel from Team Soda about Escape from Duckov:
Escape from Duckov is a Top-Down PVE Looter Extraction Shooter, where you are a plucky duck let loose in a deceptively dangerous world. Don’t be fooled by the quiet, or the gentle quack, quack of your own webbed feet.
In the dead zones of Duckov, every shadow could hide a new threat—or the score of a lifetime. It will test your wits, your trigger finger, and your uncanny ability to haul back piles of junk, upgrade your secret base, and eventually build the rocket you need to finally Escape from Duckov.
Escape from Duckov will launch on Steam, Epic, and the Mac App Store later this year. I’m excited, but what are you saying? Let me know on the Insider Gaming forum if you’d play Escape from Duckov.
