Escape from Duckov, a sensational single-player extraction shooter, has taken the PC world by storm, selling more than one million copies in under a week. In just five days, the title from Team Soda, which is a parody of Escape from Tarkov, has sold more copies than some AAA games manage to sell in the same timeframe.
The Bilibili-published extraction shooter is a lighthearted take on a very serious genre, but still presents a nice challenge and an entertaining PvE loop for fans of the niche.
Escape from Duckov Continues to Soar on Steam (and Epic)
Escape from Duckov is proving that even the most bizarre games can find success in the extraction shooter space, which has blown up in recent years. This single-player eggstravaganza puts players in command of a bird (read: duck), forcing them into a world gone bad and charging them with surviving against all odds.
They must accept and resolve quests, upgrade a hideout, and take on other bird-based enemies as they explore a harsh world and abide by survival mechanics.
It’s a great game, which I attested to in my preview, having been hands-on with Escape from Duckov before it was released just last week.
In the first 24 hours on the market, Escape from Duckov sold a whopping 200,000 copies, but the game was aiming for loftier heights.
In a statement, the game’s producer, Jeff Chen, said:
Team Soda is incredibly humbled to have reached such heights, and we owe this success to an incredible community of players and our friends at BILIBILI GAME. Whether you’ve been with us through our early days promoting the demo on Steam or are just joining to see what all the quacking is about, thank you.
This is one of the most successful launches of an extraction shooter ever, and the makers of hardcore, milsim experiences are probably kicking themselves somewhat based on the appearance of their new rival. On Steam, Escape from Duckov is the top trending game, having peaked at more than a quarter of a million concurrent players earlier today.
