Concrete Realm has released the first developer log (read: devlog) for ENDS, a Grand Theft Auto-like set in London’s gritty underbelly. It was in October 2023 that the first concept trailer emerged for ENDS, and I had the opportunity to interview the developers way back then.
The all-new devlog introduces the dual-protagonist system fronted by ‘Rahim’ and ‘Sonny’, as well as offering a showcase of the development efforts being poured into ENDS, the debut title from Concrete Realm.
ENDS Plunges Players Into Art Imitating Life
ENDS promises to offer a grounded experience, planting players in the urban environment of London and putting them in control of believable characters trying to make a name for themselves.
Concrete Realm’s first devlog explores the production of the game from multiple perspectives, including programming, story evolution, combat and movement, and in-game menus. We see how a pop-up phone mechanic offers a music player on the move, while another segment revealed how dozens of unique animations have been created to give life to the protagonists.
In some segments built to explore the gameplay camera system, we can see the main character, Rahim, walking through London. Everything from the street signs to the setting is intensely authentic, but that’s mostly because the developers live and breathe the environment they’re replicating in ENDS.
Here’s the first devlog:
ENDS is shaping up to be a diverse title with a great world that’s ripe for exploration. The team showed snippets of vehicle mechanics, hand-to-hand combat, and some light parkour-like features. They were transparent and honest about their issues (both in and out of the game) thus far and apologized for some radio silence, which is refreshing for this industry.
ENDS can be wishlisted on Steam now, and you can join the game’s Discord server to stay apprised of all the latest updates.
