The Elder Scrolls 6 will be one of those games that move mountains and sell millions, and it’s easily one of the most highly anticipated titles of all time. It’s set to be an open-world fantasy RPG of epic proportions, joining the Bethesda Game Studios Hall of Fame alongside the likes of Fallout 4 and TES V: Skyrim. In this breakdown, we’re taking a look at everything we know about The Elder Scrolls 6, the game that was revealed in 2018, but by 2024, still doesn’t have a release date.
When Is Elder Scrolls 6 Coming Out?
That’s the question on everyone’s minds at the moment – when will The Elder Scrolls 6 be released? Sadly, there’s no way of confirming the release date for The Elder Scrolls 6 at the moment. It was suggested a while ago that it wouldn’t be out until ‘at least 2026’, which still puts it quite a way off, even in 2024. It’s expected that Starfield – Bethesda’s current open-world RPG – will need to play out in full before the focus is shifted to The Elder Scrolls 6.
The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced in 2018, and in the years that followed, the leadership team at Bethesda Game Studios admitted that it regretted revealing the game so early.
What Engine Will The Elder Scrolls 6 Use?
Moving on from the Creation Engine used to build Skyrim and Fallout 4, among other games, it was confirmed that Bethesda Game Studios will be using Creation 2, an all-new engine, to build The Elder Scrolls 6. This is the same engine used for Starfield, so it stands to reason that The Elder Scrolls 6 will look and feel quite similar to Starfield.
Will Elder Scrolls 6 Be on PlayStation?
Since purchasing ZeniMax Media and, by association, Bethesda Game Studios, Microsoft picked up exclusive ownership of brands such as Fallout, Starfield, and The Elder Scrolls. It has long since been confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be exclusive to Xbox and PC platforms, and it won’t be released on whatever PlayStation console exists when the game finally launches.
Will The Elder Scrolls 6 Be On Xbox Game Pass?
It’s almost a given that The Elder Scrolls 6 will appear on Xbox Game Pass. It will follow in the footsteps of other Bethesda titles – like Starfield – and appear on the service on the day of its release. It’s a huge win for Xbox, as millions of players are likely to flood service for The Elder Scrolls 6, which is one of the most long-awaited games in history.

Where Is The Elder Scrolls 6 Set?
It hasn’t been confirmed where The Elder Scrolls 6 is set, but many believe it’ll be in the province of Hammerfall, which borders Skyrim in the land of Tamriel. In the snapshot teaser that was revealed to showcase the game’s existence in 2018, a panning shot over a map was played, and many long-time Elder Scrolls fans have seemingly deduced that the map shown was indeed Hammerfall, as the geography ‘matches up’.
This would ultimately take players back to the core setting seen in TES 2: Daggerfall. It’s a location brimming with craggy mountains, cliffs, forests, and ravines, as well as ancient castles and sprawling cities.

Will The Elder Scrolls 6 Have Multiplayer?
It’s suspected that The Elder Scrolls 6 won’t have any multiplayer mechanics, for the sole reason that an entire game exists to plug that gap – The Elder Scrolls Online. This hugely popular, thriving MMO is rooted firmly in The Elder Scrolls’ universe, and it is appreciated by millions of players worldwide. It wouldn’t make too much sense to have a multiplayer platform within the game, much as it wouldn’t make sense for Fallout 5 to have multiplayer elements when Fallout 76 exists.
But again, that’s unconfirmed.
Will There Be mods in The Elder Scrolls 6?
As a Bethesda Game Studios title, it’s almost a guarantee that mods will be available in The Elder Scrolls 6. They’re such a huge part of the Fallout series and the existing Elder Scrolls games, and it would be bizarre for BGS to not include the ability to mod the game. In September 2023, Starfield was released after years of development, and one of the biggest parts of the team’s roadmap was to include modding support and a toolkit for those looking to create amazing things in Starfield. It stands to reason that TES 6 would also have modding.
