We’ve finally had confirmation that Elden Ring DLC is in production, and it’s titled Shadow of the Erdtree.
The new content for FromSoftware’s award-gobbling game was announced via the official Elden Ring social media channels and shared with an image teasing what may be to come for Tarnished within the Lands Between.
“Rise, Tarnished, and let us walk a new path together,” the post reads. “An upcoming expansion for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, is currently in development. We hope you look forward to new adventures in the Lands Between.”
The image alongside the message shows a lone figure in white riding across a field of wheat. In the distance, beyond ruins and hills, is what looks to be the smoldering remains of the once-mighty Erdtree. Though given the landscape doesn’t seem to match up with the tree’s location inside the game world, it’s possible that this could be the Haligtree or an entirely different great tree altogether.
The mounted figure in the foreground is surrounded by ghostly spirits of what look like gravestones, which spread across the fog-enshrouded ground ahead of them. No other life can be seen in the image. It’s artwork that’s likely to spark speculation aplenty, both as to the identity of the tree and the figure riding toward it. This could even be Elden Ring’s slumbering empyrean Miquella, though when and where is far from clear.
Expansions to Fromsoft’s previous games have often delved into entirely new areas or the distant past/future of the main world. Given the rich history of the Lands Between, Elden Ring fans will no doubt be itching to learn more if Shadow of the Erdtree offers further insight into the events preceding the state of the world in the game’s opening stages.
