DPlus KIA has completed a stellar championship run in Paris, beating Karmine Corp in a grand final sweep to secure the Esports World Cup title in League of Legends. The team entered the tournament as known outsiders after a relatively low finish in the LCK regular season, and they came to Paris with little in the way of precedent, but history has been made today.
Moving towards the grand final, DPlus KIA effectively broke apart the likes of Bilibili, Gen.G, and finally, Karmine Corp, all in pursuit of the massive first-place prize and the coveted Esports World Cup trophy.
DPlus KIA Makes History in Paris
This is DPlus KIA’s first international title since 2020, and the organization’s first under the ‘new’ branding, all of which represents a stunning milestone for the squad. They pinched the $600,000 grand prize and beat Karmine Corp to the lion’s share of the EWC club points up for grabs, walking away with 1,000 points towards the organization’s total in the Club Championship.
Karmine Corp tried to show some resilience in that final series, but from the outset, DPlus KIA set the tone. The first game took 31 minutes to wrap up, and almost throughout the entire thing, DPlus suffocated KC. The second game was much the same, with DPlus KIA pushing to a dominant 18-8 scoreline for the win.
The final round was a shutdown for KC, with DPlus KIA throwing out all the stops to walk away with a 23-5 score to net the championship in Paris.
This was a win against all odds, including those found on the open market. In the run-up to the grand final, most Polymarket users had the odds firmly against DPlus KIA, but that’s why underdogs are often so valuable.
