Last night at the Call of Duty League Championship in Las Vegas, tempers frayed, and emotions ran amok as the closing matches took place. The schedule pushed on and has wound up leaving FaZe Vegas and OpTic Texas in the grand final, presenting what could be an immensely memorable way to wrap up the CDL season, but it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for all involved.
In the hours after Paris Gentle Mates was eliminated from the tournament by Riyadh Falcons, claims started emerging online that Gentle Mates’ Daunte ‘Sib’ Gray had gotten into an altercation with an OpTic fan throwing shade their way, going so far as to ‘spit in his face.’
Drama in Vegas at the COD League Championship
The Call of Duty League Championship has been a pretty electrifying tournament thus far. We saw LA Thieves drop out in last place after months of intense buildup over the season, rendering them the favorite to win. We also saw Riyadh Falcons make a decent run in the lower bracket, eliminating Toronto KOI, Heretics, and Gentle Mates before falling against OpTic Texas.
Now, going into the grand final, users over on Polymarket are split as to whether OpTic or FaZe will take the trophy.
Unfortunately, for all the excitement, there have been a couple of bad news stories emerging from the event. LAT’s Scrap went on a tirade on social media, claiming that his PC was faulty, which led to him crashing out of the tournament without winning a single series. And then, most recently, claims surfaced that Gentle Mates’ Sib spat at an OpTic fan in a clash after the team’s elimination by Riyadh.
There’s a clip doing the rounds on social media, which shows the fan having a run-in with security:
In a follow-up that landed almost two hours later, CDL creator ‘Landen’ uploaded a video, in which he claims to have spoken to the fan in question, whom he dubbed his ‘friend’. The validity of this has yet to be confirmed, but the person said during the short interview:
I understand why he did it, but he shouldn’t have done it.
I understand, because I’m talking s*** about you, you just lost Champs, you’re going home, I just told you to go cry about it later, bitch, and you came back and spit in my face. I understand.
The motherf***er backed up behind Ghosty like a little pussy. I’m over here charging here and I’m trying to fight this f***ing dude, and he’s just backing behind his f***ing teammates. And then security stops me.
The fan went on to say again that Sib spat in his face, and that’s the only reason he ‘escalated further’, in a move that he said was ‘showing passion’ because it was his first Call of Duty League event.
He then claimed that the ‘event manager’ approached him and asked if he wanted to press charges against Sib, something that he said he wasn’t interested in doing because he doesn’t care about the situation.

I’ve reached out to the Call of Duty League seeking further clarification on this situation and will report back when I’ve got more.
