Disney Knows There’s Still Demand For KOTOR Remake

It has been a wild ride of late for fans waiting for some solid news on the Knights of the Old Republic remake. From the development of the game changing hands a few times to claims surfacing that the entire project is dead in the water, it has seemed on several occasions that this particular remake is doomed and won’t ever make it to market.

Most recently, it was stressed that Saber Interactive is working on the KOTOR remake, and that the project is gathering steam since the company took over the development of the long-awaited remake from Aspyr in 2022.

In the latest development, a Disney executive acknowledged that there is a lot of demand for the KOTOR remake.

Take Us Back

Released way back in 2003, Knights of the Old Republic (and its follow-up title) is seen as being some of BioWare’s best work, and one of the most memorable games in the Star Wars universe. For years, fans of the franchise have been calling out for someone, somewhere to remake it. It seemed for a while that it would become one of those mythical games that was rumoured to be in development but would never surface.

In an interview with Axios, Sean Shoptaw, the Head of Gaming at Disney, explained how the titanic company is aware of the demand for a KOTOR remake:

Not a lot I can say on that point for some hopefully obvious reasons, but KOTOR is obviously an incredibly popular game, one that we are incredibly proud of and think that there’s still a lot of demand for. I’ll leave it there.

Saber Interactive now has the steer on the development of the KOTOR remake. Most recently, Saber was in the news following the reveal that the team was working on bringing Kingdom Come: Deliverance to the Nintendo Switch.

  • Sony was publishing the game why don’t they move it to Bluepoint? If they’re 100% done with it then move it to Xbox now that they own Activision just have Vicarious Visions remake it.

  • There’s demand for KOTOR 3, 1313, Force Unleashed 3, Force Unleashed remake, The Simpsons Hit & Run remake, Deadpool game 2, Epic Mickey 3, Epic Mickey remake, and a new Punisher game where are those? Why don’t they let Double Fine make the open world Grim Fandango game they want to make? Where’s the Marvel fighting game? Where’s DC vs Marvel from NRS? How about making those too!
