Blizzard has announced Diablo 4 Season 4: Loot Reborn is releasing on May 14 at 1pm ET.

With Diablo 4 Season 4, Blizzard is taking a different approach with players. Rather than adding a new story to the game, the new season focuses on in-game loot, crafting, and more.

“For this season we made an assessment along the way where, it really seemed like what we should be focusing our time on is making really substantial update to the item game,” Tim Ismay, lead producer of seasons, told IGN. “This season, very differently from past seasons, is really more of a core, fundamental change to how a big part of how Diablo gameplay works, as opposed to being more seasonal content.”

Diablo 4 Season 4 Changes

While Season 4 features a long list of changes and updates, the biggest comes in the form of itemization updates.

First, Blizzard is making it easier to see which items are upgrades when they first drop.

“Dropped Items are now simpler to evaluate, and we’ve moved their complexity and customization to our new crafting systems,” the developer said.

The number of affixes on items has been reduced down to two on Rare items and three on Legendary items. These affixes have also been made “more effective”. For example, Blizzard says, “instead of seeing an affix that relies on conditional values (+10% damage on non-injured Elites), you’ll see affixes such as base increases to your Movement Speed, Max life, or single ranks of a Core Skill.”

Also coming in the new season is a Tempering system that will allow you to customize your items as you find new Tempering Manuals, an overhaul to the Codex of Power, and new “greater affixes” that appear only on Ancestral Legendary and Unique items, among other updates.

Lastly, Helltide has been updated for Season 4. Players will now earn Threat within the area that is earned based on the difficulty of the monsters killed in the area. As your Threat increases, the ambushes become more difficult with the highest level making you “Hell-Marked”.

“When you’ve been Hell-Marked, you’ll be besieged by a frenzy of densely packed monsters,” Blizzard says. “If you make it out alive, a Hellborn will come for you: one of Sanctuary’s most formidable fallen warriors, now an immensely powerful agent of Hell.”
