Destiny 2 was released in 2017 and eventually pivoted to a free-to-play operating model that made it a substantially popular choice for sci-fans looking to explore a universe with their friends and go toe-to-toe with all manner of alien threats. Over the years, the community has asked for many things – and Bungie has often delivered. One thing that was called for and never provided was the ability to amend a created character after the fact, leaving many players hating their less aesthetically pleasing creations.
Well, that’s about to change. Ahead of the release of the final DLC for Destiny 2, Bungie has revealed that a new character customisation function is being added to the game.
Fix What’s Broken
In a free-to-use update, Bungie is adding the ability to customise almost everything about your character in Destiny 2. That includes facial features, hair, markings, colours, and body type – but you can’t change your ‘origin’. That means you won’t be able to suddenly pivot from Human to Exo, for example.
Bungie explained that there will be no limits to how many times you can customise your character. It’ll be a menu you can leap into with the press of a button, tweaking how you look based on how you might be feeling that day. It’s a common enough feature in other MMOs, to be honest. For instance, in Bethesda’s Fallout 76, players can leap into the game’s options screen and change everything about their character in a matter of seconds, which plays quite well into the game’s RP scene.
It wasn’t stressed when this update will arrive in Destiny 2, only that it’s coming ahead of the deployment of The Final Shape, which is set to drop in June.
