According to a new Steam post, Dead Island 2 will officially release on Steam on April 22nd. The announcement adds that “you can still team up” with players who purchased Dead Island 2 on the Epic Games Store.
The Steam release date almost perfectly lines up with the annual anniversary of the original launch. Dead Island 2 first released in April 2023, and is available now on Windows, Xbox, and PlayStation.
The devs did not elaborate on exactly what delayed the Steam version of the game. However, longtime fans are sure to enjoy further platform support, especially with EGS crossplay.
Dead Island 2 launched to some mixed reviews from critics, but players still give it ‘Generally Favorable’ ratings on Metacritic. So, there should be a decent audience for a new Steam version.
Developer Dambuster Studios released a new story expansion in November 2023 called Haus. It took players to a villa in Malibu, and introduced the brutal Kult villains.
Although this DLC was a little divisive among fans, Dead Island 2 doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
The next DLC will be “Sola Festival”. The devs haven’t confirmed many details about it yet. There are rumors about a Q2 release window this year, but there is no concrete release date yet.
The Dead Island 2 website has revealed a promo image that showcases a music festival sound stage beset by zombies.
It’s also considered another “major story expansion”. So, the gameplay should run about as long as Haus did. There are certainly plenty of loose ends to tie up after Haus’ divisive ending.
To celebrate the Dead Island 2 Steam release, players can get Dead Island Riptide – Definitive Edition for free within the next 48 hours.
