After rumors and leaks aplenty, Counter-Strike 2 has finally been revealed by Valve. The reveal comes in the form of three new videos on Valve’s official YouTube Channel.
The videos, which you can watch below, take a look at the game’s maps, weapon gameplay, and smoke grenades.
Valve Has Revealed Counter-Strike 2’s New Additions
Developed in Source 2, Counter-Strike 2 will feature a full overhaul of the game’s maps, visuals, and various elements. From a gameplay perspective, smoke will interact with other gameplay events.
“Bullets and HE grenades can push smoke to briefly clear sightlines or expand occlusion,” Valve says.
For shooting, tick rate will no longer matter for moving, shooting, or throwing, according to Valve.
“Previously, the server only evaluated the world in discrete time intervals (called ticks). Thanks to Counter-Strike 2’s sub-tick update architecture, servers know the exact instant that motion starts, a shot is fired, or a ‘nade is thrown,” the game’s website reads.
“As a result, regardless of tick rate, your moving and shooting will be equally responsive and your grenades will always land the same way.”
Regarding the overhauled maps, Valve’s developers used Source 2 tools to enhance the overall visuals, UI, and environment within Counter-Strike 2. The company also revealed that full suite of Source 2 tools and features will be available for community map makers. The Source 2 Item Workshop will be available for testing later this year.
An official sequel to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Counter-Strike 2 is expected to launch summer 2023. Currently, Valve is holding a Limited Test for players to get their first taste of the game.
