China Suffers 0-8 Opener At VALORANT Champions Shanghai on Home Turf

The opening round of the VALORANT Champions Shanghai tournament has not been kind to the Chinese organizations stepping up to compete on home turf. All four Chinese teams have failed to win a single map in their opening fixtures, falling flat at every opportunity and putting on a disappointing show for all the home fans travelling to Shanghai to watch the event unfold.

In four matches, all the Chinese teams that qualified for VALORANT Champs Shanghai managed to do absolutely nothing impressive, while VCT Americas has managed to utterly dominate thus far in the tournament.

China Falls Flat in Opening VAL Champs Round

Here’s how it went at VALORANT Champs in Shanghai.

TYLOO went up against G2 Esports and picked up a 0-2 defeat and a woeful 9-26 round differential.

EDward Gaming was defeated by LOUD with a 0-2 scoreline and a 13-26 differential.

XLG Esports, which enters the VALORANT Champions stage for the first time, was crushed by Karmine Corp 0-2 and managed, like TYLOO, to hit a 9-26 round differential.

And then JD Gaming, up against FUT Esports, managed a 0-2 loss with a round result of 11-26.

That’s right, one team managed to hit double digits in terms of round count. That’s insanely poor performance, and it indicates that when teams start getting eliminated, the Chinese organizations might be the first to depart.

In the esports space, that typically has a terrible impact on the size of the crowd attending the event. Nobody wants to go to an event on home turf and cheer for the teams that eliminated the organizations you support.

At the other end of the spectrum sits VCT Americas, representing a complete polar flip to VCT China, with a perfect 4-0 record achieved by 100 Thieves, LOUD, NRG, and G2 Esports.
