It has been announced that 2K Games will reveal the next iteration of its ‘biggest and most beloved’ franchise on June 7 at Summer Game Fest.
Presumably, the announcement will not be related to the publisher’s annual releases like WWE or NBA. Instead, it’s strongly believed that the game could be related to the Borderlands series.
Earlier this year, Gearbox had already announced that Borderlands 4 was in “active development”, which has been in development for a number of years. In March 2021, Randy Pitchford said that they [Gearbox] is working on ‘the big one’ when it comes to the Boderlands series. This suggests that the game has been in development for at least three years now.
Apart from Borderlands, other franchises that fit this category could be Mafia or Bioshock.
As of 2023, Take-Two reported that Borderlands 3, its last mainline Borderlands title, has sold over 18 million copies and generated well over $1 billion in revenue.
In addition to Borderlands games, the series will also be having its own ‘cinematic universe’, which will kickstart with the Borderlands movie scheduled to release on August 9, 2024.

Mafia has been in development longer that’s my guess.
I wish Rockstar would do this would be great to know Red Dead Redemption 3 is on the way. Also to see remakes of Midnight Club, GTA and Manhunt. Wonder how far the Max Payne remake is? Wasn’t 2K supposed to have another BioShock game in development?
