A Look at the Biggest Video Game Releases Left in 2024

This year has felt jam-packed full of hot releases month after month, with the likes of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Astro Bot, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Balatro, Tekken 8, and, honestly, the list goes on for quite some time. But the year isn’t over yet, and we still have a handful of major releases to consider before closing out 2024. Here’s a quick look at the biggest video game releases left in 2024!

Upcoming Video Games on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S

Of course, this is not a comprehensive list of every upcoming video game available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S through the end of the year. There are countless hundreds of titles still to come across the next few months, with the majority of them indie projects that deserve attention, but these titles steal the spotlight in more ways than one.

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead

  • Release Date: October 17, 2024
  • Developer: Stormind Games

Take a long, hard look at your bingo card. Did you have a video game adaptation of A Quiet Place set to release in 2024? I surely didn’t, but I’m happy it’s coming anyway. The video game follows a single survivor on her trek across abandoned territory in search of her family while escaping and hiding from the predatory, all-hearing monsters that fell from space.

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead utilizes sound mechanics to keep you on your toes. Not only must you be wary of the noise you make within the environment, but a recent reveal indicates even your microphone could be a deadly source of noise if you’re not quiet in real life while playing!

Life is Strange: Double Exposure

  • Release Date: October 29, 2024
  • Developer: Deck Nine Games

I’ll be upfront straight out of the gate: I’m a stranger to the Life is Strange franchise. I’ve never played any of them, but the way Grant here at Insider Gaming goes on about the series, I guess it’s time to change that.

What I know about Life is Strange: Double Exposure is that Max Caulfield returns once more but with a newfound ability to shift between various timelines within the story. You must traverse these parallel universes to track down Safi and solve her murder before it occurs in the alternate timeline.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

  • Release Date: October 24, 2024
  • Developer: Treyarch

Oh, come on! Do I even need to say anything about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6? I’d leave this blank as a joke, but my editor might be unhappy about that. The reality is that, despite not requiring an introduction, Black Ops 6 proves noteworthy this year as the first new release in the franchise to hit Xbox Game Pass on day one following the Microsoft acquisition of Activision-Blizzard.

But more importantly, to those of us in the trenches of its competitive multiplayer maps, Black Ops 6 proved itself an extraordinarily entertaining and grounded experience following the multiple beta weekends. But if I have to play Skyline again, I will express my displeasure on X in a strongly worded post that no one will read.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard

  • Release Date: October 31, 2024
  • Developer: BioWare

I still fondly remember picking up a copy of Dragon Age: Origins on PC way back in the day. You know, the bulky physical PC case version? I still have it somewhere, but my sights are set firmly on Dragon Age: The Veilguard. I hear about it daily, thanks to my wife, so there’s no escape, even if I wasn’t interested in the upcoming RPG. Thankfully, everything I’ve heard and watched, from the character creator to the hair physics, looks mint.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard thrusts players back into Thedas, a vibrant landscape brimming with hostility, and you’ll lead the Veilguard as Rook, a hero who will gather a party of seven companions, each with a backstory and personality, to save the world from a corrupt god.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl

  • Release Date: November 20, 2024
  • Developer: GSC Game World

It was 2010 the last time we received an all-new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. title, and those of us who grew up playing the immersive open-world first-person shooter mostly waited patiently for more. Well, it’s finally here. GSC Game World, despite exceptional hardship over the past few years during game development, is finally unleashing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Heart of Chornobyl upon the world this coming November.

Now, there’s a genuine chance that Heart of Chornobyl consumes our every waking moment, come the end of November. It’s a 100-hour adventure with faction mechanics, weapon customization, survival elements, and plenty of exploration across the post-apocalyptic wasteland of the zone. Here’s to losing ourselves in its game world!

Lego Horizon Adventures

  • Release Date: November 14, 2024
  • Developer: Guerrilla

If you’re unfamiliar with the Lego universe of video game adaptations, often based on popular films and other…video games, you might think it is mere child’s play. After all, what grown adult wants to play with Lego? Us! We do. The Lego video games tend to be packed full of entertainment value, with countless hours spent hunting collectibles and smashing blocks to pieces for a few coins. Now, the brick-based universe expands with robotic dinosaurs from the Horizon franchise.

Lego Horizon Adventures brings back Aloy and a team of characters from the video game series to trek across the post-apocalyptic continent in search of mysteries and secrets from her past. The best part? It’s a co-op adventure, allowing you to step back in time and enjoy the block-based adventure with a partner.

Slitterhead

  • Release Date: November 8, 2024
  • Developer: Bokeh Game Studio

We’ve had a genuinely fantastic year for the horror genre with The Outlast Trials, Silent Hill 2, Still Wakes the Deep, and Crow Country, among countless others, but the year isn’t through yet. Slitterhead, from developer Bokeh Game Studio, a studio founded by Keiichiro Toyama, the creator of Silent Hill, promises to amp up the terror in early November.

Set in the streets of Kowlong, you take on the role of “Hyoki,” an entity capable of possessing humans to eradicate the Slitterhead from the city streets. You’ll utilize human blood as weapons in your fight against these demonic entities that can mimic humans before altering themselves drastically, similar to Necromorphs in Dead Space.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

  • Release Date: December 8, 2024
  • Developer: MachineGames

Did you grow up watching Indiana Jones? Then, like those of us here at Insider Gaming, you can probably still hear the telltale whip crack as Indy takes down another bad guy or attaches himself to a perfectly positioned tree branch to swing across a gap. But we’re about to live that experience firsthand from the perspective of the man himself.

MachineGames’ upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a first-person action-adventure game, which is coming to PlayStation 5, takes place in 1937 when sinister foes aim to obtain ancient power for themselves. Indiana Jones, voiced by the renowned Troy Baker, will come to the rescue with fisticuffs, the iconic whip, and the occasional revolver.
