If you thought sniper classes were overpowered in Battlefield 6, wait until you see the thermal scopes that were recently leaked from the current round of Battlefield Labs playtests. In a series of clips and images posted across social media, we’ve gained our first look at thermal scopes in Battlefield 6, and despite them looking very cool, they’re going to be a thorn in the side of many.
In case you don’t know, a thermal scope uses temperature detection to pick out enemies, vehicles, and other items that generate heat and make them much more visible against the world around them.
Now imagine that strapped to a big-bore sniper rifle on a wide, open map.
Thermal Scopes in Battlefield 6 Were Inevitable
It was plain as day that something like thermal scopes would find their way into Battlefield 6, and thanks to the latest round of Battlefield Labs leaks, we know that they’re here:
This addition obviously gives recon-based players an immense advantage, offering them unparalleled visibility, even against enemies in cover or camouflage. It was later shown in the leaked Battlefield 6 footage that short-to-mid range scopes are available with a thermal function, which means that other classes can also rely on the technology.
For some, thermal scopes are the end of the world and shouldn’t be in a game at all, thanks to the sheer advantage they offer over those not using them. It’s a piece of battlefield technology that’s present in most first-person shooters in some way, though.
The response to this latest Battlefield 6 leak was met with stony replies across social media. Fans are not happy about this addition and want it to be heavily restricted, perhaps via slower ADS, reduced visual range, or even a battery function that means you can’t sit there and use the thermal mechanic ad infinitum.
