It was recently revealed by Larian Studios’ Michael Douse, the firm’s Director of Publishing, that Baldur’s Gate 3 has sold ‘way over’ ten million copies since it was released in August 2023. This revelation came off the back of Douse addressing the upcoming ‘mod support’ update, during which he also had some hard words reserved for toxic members of the game’s community pushing for these updates to drop faster than possible.
Ten Million and Counting
On Twitter, Michael Douse assured the community that mod support ‘discussions’ will kick off soon, but as said community grew from ‘~2 mil players to way over 10 in a very short space of time’, it’s easy for those discussions to grow out of control. That was a theme highlighted by Douse on Twitter, with the Larian director stressing that ‘a few bad eggs will start a fire’ given the chance.
It’s a topic that has arisen following recent news that Larian Studios has plans to push out official mod support for the remarkably popular game that has now been on the market for more than six months. Speaking with an authoritative tone, Douse insisted that the community (of more than ten million gamers by this point) keep itself in check while waiting for these updates:
Until then, BG3 does not yet have mod support. Don’t get angry at mod authors, support teams, community or developers. Our focus is to patch the game while working on future mod support. I understand why it’s frustrating, so what we all need to do is focus on that future.
Are you one of the ten million (plus) players who sunk hours into Baldur’s Gate 3, or are you yet to jump into the game? Let us know in the comments.
