Balatro Hits 1 Million Copies Sold, ‘Fun Things Planned’

In a new post on Twitter, the official Balatro account revealed that the game officially reached 1 million copies sold, thanking the fanbase for their support.

The developers also confirmed that “we still have some fun things planned for the future”. It’s unclear if this refers to something entirely new, or comments made last week.

Developer LocalThunk recently revealed plans to bring Balatro to iPhone. During the interview, the devs teased that more updates are coming.

Reportedly, Balatro’s “way forward would be ‘possibly more secrets. Definitely some new and interesting design space I am excited to explore!”.

Balatro made a big impression on the indie scene when it launched on February 20th. The game quickly earned 500,000 copies in ten days.

Although sales did slow down since then, it maintains “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam. Also, Balatro was temporarily delisted in EU countries due to a rating dispute.

The central poker-themed cards and “gambling imagery” appeared to be the issue. Fortunately, on March 8th, publisher Playstack confirmed that Balatro is back up on the Nintendo Switch eShop in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

So, Balatro continued to succeed after dealing with a major setback. It makes sense that the devs chose to reveal larger plans for the future of the game.

Balatro is a roguelike deck-builder that blends familiar poker cards with exciting new mechanics, full of satisfying combos.

It’s a refreshing take on a tired genre, so there are certainly plenty of more gameplay avenues. The game is available now on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Rogouelike fans can also look forward to Hyper Light Breaker, another indie roguelike that launches into Early Access this summer.
