Atomic Heart’s First Expansion Has Been Revealed

Atomic Heart wasn’t the most well-received game when it was released in February 2023. It suffered from some controversies, such as the depiction of racist imagery and offering up a world that some believed was a thinly-veiled attempt at Pro-Russia propaganda.

With those scandals aside, Atomic Heart didn’t score too badly, but it wasn’t as deep as many would have liked. That’s where expansions come in, right? Hours ago, Mundfish and Focus Entertainment lifted the lid on Atomic Heart’s first expansion, titled ‘Annihilation Instinct’, and it’s coming August 2nd, 2023.

More Atomic Heart, Anyone?

If you’ve already purchased the ‘Atomic Pass’, then you’ll have access to Annihilation Instinct when it drops in August. If you haven’t, then you can still secure your pass, or if you’re not willing to invest that much, then you can purchase the expansion separately in a couple of months.

Here’s the breakdown that’s tucked away beneath the trailer for Annihilation Instinct:

‘Continue the story in the Annihilation Instinct DLC and learn what happened to this dystopian world after the climax of Atomic Heart. Prepare to embark on a journey through the new mind-bending Mendeleev Complex and its surrounding swamps and discover the truth about NORA as Major P-3 is pulled back into Facility 3826. Survive vicious, shape-shifting new enemies and take them down using two cunning new weapons – ranged one the Secateur and melee one the Klusha – as well as your glove’s new Techno-Stasis ability, allowing you to manipulate time itself.

Meet a new enigmatic character, as well as returning ones in surprising circumstances and dive deep into the AI’s insanity to curb its Annihilation Instinct.

Here’s the trailer itself, too:

Recently, Atomic Heart was updated to include New Game +, which is something of a staple in post-launch updates these days. It’s the ‘most difficult game mode yet’, and it’ll present players with the ‘strongest enemies Atomic Heart has ever unleashed’.

Well, that sounds fun.
