The Asian Games 2026 League of Legends tournament is well underway after two days of action saw its Group Stage conclude.
South Korea took full advantage of the six-man roster for the event, with Kim ‘Zeka’ Geon-woo playing two of the group matches and Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok playing once.
South Korea dominate Asian Games groups to progress to semis
The Round-Robin Group Stage saw each team in each group play each other in a Best of 1 in a rapid format.
South Korea’s campaign got off to a start against Chinese Taipei, featuring three of last year’s CFO roster, Yu ‘JunJia’ Chun-Chia, Tsai ‘HongQ’ Ming-Hong, and Chiu ‘Doggo’ Tzu-Chuan.
So Chinese Taipei were not easy opposition in the opening round, having in-build synergy in the roster, but so did the Korean roster.
Choi ‘Zeus’ Woo-je, Kim ‘Canyon’ Geon-bu, Zeka, Lee ‘Gumayusi’ Min-hyung, and Ryu ‘Keria’ Min-seok was the starting lineup of that contest, but it quickly became a no-contest.
Taking the game in only 25 minutes, as a team effort saw Keria, Zeka, and Gumayusi all amass at least 10 assists, with Zeus also dominating on Olaf.
Next up was Team India, and this is where Faker entered the fray in the highly favored matchup. Gumayusi recorded a 11/0/1 KDA on Lucian, as Faker went 4/3/6 in an 18-minute stomp that saw Korea go 2-0 in the groups.
The roster’s final group stage contest was against Hong Kong, featuring veteran LPL force Ling ‘Kaiwing’ Kai Wing. Again, Korea breezed to victory in 22 minutes, this time iwth Zeka returned to the mid lane.
Canyon starred on Lee Sin with a 6/1/11 scoreline while Keria’s signature pick of Bard saw him roam the map and collect a staggering 17 assists with two kills along the way.
After a flawless Group Stage, South Korea will now face Saudi Arabia in the semi-final Best of 3 match before the Best of 5 Grand Final where they will either face Vietnam or a rematch with Chinese Taipei.
Vietnam progressed through Group A with a 3-0 record on Tuesday, whereas Saudi Arabia banked wins against Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates to make the semi-finals.
The tournament notably does not feature a Chinese roster, the traditional rivals to the South Korean team, meaning South Korea taking home gold in Japan is highly expected.
