If people thought interest in Apex Legends was wilting, the numbers would suggest otherwise. With the launch of Season 16 on Tuesday, Apex Legends has broken its individual record for most concurrent players on Steam with over 610,000 players at one time.
The numbers don’t include those on consoles or playing via EA’s first-party launcher.
What’s In Apex Legends’ New Season?
With the success of Season 16’s launch, the question for many is, “what’s in the new season?” The first thing to note is that it doesn’t include a new hero for players. However, there is plenty of other content to check out.
Season 16, also known as “Revelry”, includes a new Nemesis energy assault rifle to use. The season also features changes to the game’s class system. Every class now features a new gameplay perk to help give players new “strategic options” in the game for a specific class.
“At casual levels of play, these new gameplay benefits will be fun new bonuses to engage with and empower decision making,” EA says. “At higher levels of play, a squad make-up now determines what gameplay elements the team will have access to, and what they’re leaving behind.”
Other updates to the game for the new season are a new 6v6 Team Deathmatch mode, replacing Arena. This mode sees teams battle it out to see which squad can be the first to reach 30 kills to win a round. The first team to win two rounds wins the match. The mode features airdrops for stronger weapons during each round as well as the ability to swap loadouts in between rounds.
Have you checked out season 16 yet? If so, what are your thoughts on what’s new for players in Apex Legends?
