Capcom has announced that the Resident Evil 4 remake has hit yet another sales milestone. In a post on social media on Wednesday, it was revealed that Resident Evil 4 has sold 8 million copies since its March 2023 release.
“To you, the 8 million-plus agents, thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” Capcom said.
Prior to this update, the studio announced that the game reached 7 million within its first year on the market. The game also sold 3 million copies within its first two days.
For comparisons sake, the original Resident Evil 4 sold 13.3 million copies per VGChartz. So, while the remake is behind the total sales of the original, it’s only been on the market for 19 months as of writing. The latest data on the original’s sales is from 2020, 15 years after its release.
In total, the Resident Evil 2 remake remains the best-selling of the Resident Evil games, per Capcom, at 14.2 million copies. While Resident Evil 5 technically sold more at 14.8 million, Capcom treats them as separate releases due to being seven years apart and on separate console generations at the time.
