Overwatch on Switch 2 Suffers Huge Performance Issues: “This is a Disaster”

Overwatch has finally launched on Nintendo’s flagship platform, hitting the Switch 2 yesterday, April 14. The long-awaited arrival of the hero shooter hasn’t been without hiccups, though. In recent hours, users have reported the game being ‘completely broken’ on the Switch 2 platform, with some claiming that it’s just the Switch 1 version ‘boosted on Switch 2’.

Blizzard has already acknowledged the issue, writing on social media that the FPS limit on Switch 2 is ‘lower than intended’ and promising a patch to arrive in due course.

Overwatch Hits Switch 2 But Falls Fast

The big selling point about Overwatch landing on the Nintendo Switch 2 is that it offers upgraded visuals and up to 60 FPS performance on the console, which launched almost a year ago. However, players diving into Blizzard’s hero shooter are noticing that’s not the case, as the game is running like mud on the platform.

In a post on social media, Blizzard addressed Overwatch’s launch issues:

We are aware of an issue with the FPS limit on the Nintendo Switch 2 being lower than intended. We are working on a patch to resolve this issue.

In a post on the Nintendo Switch subreddit, users were venting their frustrations about Overwatch’s problems.

One user wrote, ‘Thanks for saving me a download. I’ll give it a month for them to get their s*** together before downloading.’

Another wrote, ‘This is a disaster. It is still 30 FPS, and if anything, it’s a downgrade from the already bad performance of the original client.’

It was just last week that Blizzard announced the imminent arrival of Overwatch on Switch 2, landing alongside the season two update dubbed Reign of Talon. The team wrote:

Take the fight with you as Overwatch arrives on Nintendo Switch 2. Better visuals, higher fidelity audio, and up to 60 FPS in both docked and handheld mode make this a much stronger way to experience the game on your Nintendo Switch 2. It’s a cleaner, crisper, portable version of Overwatch that still lets you play with your friends wherever you are

That has not turned out to be the case, much to the chagrin of players everywhere.
